The Italian Affair

It was on my Bangalore bucket list from the day I had set my eyes on it. Each time I’d go to Forum Mall or MG road I’d pass it and would make a pledge to myself that ‘I’ll soon whet my appetite of good Italian cuisine (as the name suggested)’.

One day my friend and I decided to just drop in there out of the blue, calling it our birthday treats to each other, no wonder it was going to be an expensive affair.

So finally I set foot in Spaghetti Kitchen, and it was electric indeed. The interiors are tastefully done; I can’t say will remind you of Italy(as seen in travel shows ;)) but yea can elevate your mood. The conspicuous red entrance door with a lion mouth knock door bell welcomed us, the tiled table tops were made of ceramic pieces of earthly colours; glass lanterns beautified the windows, Copper show pieces adored few walls, while others were painted as round arches overlooking a vast landscape of fields and tunnels giving it a ‘Outdoorsy’ feel.Image

After a heart full look around it was time to for some gastronomic activity. Not in a mood of spirits we settled for mock-tails, they had a range of virgin martinis (non-alcoholic, how can you call it martini then??) may be as an ode to ever so loved 007 Bond James Bond. I went for Her Majesty’s Favourite, which was a concoction of apple juice, mint and lime,  it gave a good company to the food we ate whereas my friend ordered Martini Another Day (attempting macho-ism I guess), a green colour drink dominated by sweetness of passion fruit and other ingredients, a little too sugary for my palate but perfect for his.

Our first course started with basket of breads (complimentary) and Zuppe a.k.a Soups.

I had Crema Di Pomodori Affumicati i.e Smoked Tomato and Basil soup which was more or less the Indian tomato soup, with a little more acidity of course and basil leaves added to the flavour.

La Stracciatella i.e Chicken consommé was a peculiar looking soup my friend ordered. It had lucid flavours of chicken, egg yolk and parmesan cheese. Delight for hearty feasters.

In a mood to experiment we ordered for Pizza la parmiggiana, Lasagna al fomo and Spaghetti con polo e pesto as our main course.

The pizza surprised us, being green in color and super thin crust as thin as Indian papads or poppadoms. It was a zesty combination of green and black olives, mushrooms, red and yellow peppers each giving it distinct taste blended with the Parmesan cheese and honey mustard dressing on super thin base. Way different than our regular pizzas. It’s a recommended eat.

Lasagna al fomo was a beautiful dish with lasagna stacked neatly topped with classic herbed italian tomato cream sauce which held the taste of the whole dish. The stack without the sauce tasted cheese and a bit bland, a little more quantity of sauce would have transformed the dish remarkably.

Our last but not the least dish of day was spaghetti, a nicely sauteed spaghetti with loads of basil pesto (claimed homemade- which made me question how can thing made in a restaurant be called home made: D), Parmesan, pine nuts, pan seared chicken, cherry tomatoes and mushrooms. The chicken was soft and tender, well cooked. Image

It was mouth watering indeed we wished it was out first dish cause we couldn’t have enough of it partly and wholly because we were full by then.

The overall experience of the place was great, the waiter as well as the manger was courteous and helpful, service was great, so was the ambiance, tad overpriced otherwise a good place for some Autentica Cucina Italiana,Addio!
